Having an insight into which way things are shaping up will be critical and like last year we are providing a pre-race analysis of the current to be expected in the race. The first analysis and instructions will be delivered 4-5 days before the race and the second analysis on the day before.

For the analysis, we spend a lot of time looking at the SST in comparison with the currents and sea surface height. This tells us three things:

1. Whether the position of the eddies is correct or have they moved / changed shape
2. Which way is any movement trending
3. Where is the likely position of the SST fronts (places where the current changes sharply in strength - they can be likened to weather fronts within a weather system)
